no more social media. i make text games that are poorly rated in game jams.

wrote this on discord after finishing it:

  • the hack and slash mechanics are simple but still have depth. they are a hybrid between musou and character action gameplay. combos exist in this game, but they don’t require rather obnoxious fighting game inputs. quite intuitive in a pick-up-and-play way.
  • the plot is pretty serious in a jrpg/chanbara and not b-horror way. you would expect a series focused on zombie slaying to be all about the zombies, but the story leans into the title m much more. it’s more about family, samurais, and the cursed blood berserk mode shit. it’s rather boring at times, but then the imouto character appears and the game becomes great. just kinda funny there's like zero discussion on why zombies are a thing.
  • i quite like the doting interactions between the oneechan and imouto. they’re pretty cute.
  • the asset recycling is quite funny. the final few maps are just the same sewers but with different starting points. it’s serviceable, not like the game needs more original maps since the gameplay is kinda musou-ish
  • many interesting enemy types that require a bit more thought. the cops and soldier zombies exist in order to break your combo, so it’s quite nice
  • there are some enemies that can only be killed by a parry (too tight compared to sekiro) or berserk mode, which is quite cute.
  • there is a decent variety of unique bosses. while it all boils down to timing dodges, i had a lot of fun figuring out the attack patterns and knowing when to dodge
  • it is quite silly that the story mode allows you to pause, go to the shop, and buy some healing items. this doesn’t work in the infinite survival mode, of course
  • the story mode on hard took me almost six hours. two new difficulties are unlocked: a very hard difficulty and a mode where you are forced to use a lvl 2 berserk which drains your health but recovers it if you are fighting enemies
  • this is the kind of game that needs a good postgame, so those levels are nice. but if you want more, there’s the infinite survival
  • the infinite survival is what it says on the tin. you can unlock a character 100 floors in and every 50 floor is a checkpoint. however, it seems the tower just repeats after 150.
  • all in all, quite a fun game that is replayable but is a bit too shallow in postgame. i don’t think i’ll do more of the game, but i know i would’ve gone deeper into the game if postgame content was more than just harder levels + infinite survival. it’s quite a good game

the game is currently part of a decent humble bundle:

but i'd rather recommend the earth defense force bundle lol:
