This Renault R5 Turbo got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1985 Renault R5 Turbo 2 is #127 of 200 road-going Evolution models produced to homologate the R5 Maxi Turbo rally car for WRC Group B competition. The car was imported into the US and federalized by Sun International, and it was purchased in 2018 by the seller, reportedly from an employee of the original owner. Power is from by a turbocharged 1,432cc inline-four paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, and cloth Recaro seats have been installed along with a MOMO steering wheel and an aftermarket stereo head unit. This R5 Turbo shows just 44k kilometers (~27k miles) and is now offered with spare parts and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Evolution models came equipped with an aluminum roof, as well as the boxed fender flares found on other Turbo 2 models. This example is finished in red with gray exterior trim. Paint imperfections noted on the hood and rear hatch are detailed in the photo gallery. Replacement units for the cracked rear trim and reverse lights are included in the sale, and the Turbo script on the rear glass is chipped.

Staggered-width factory alloy wheels are retained and wear Michelin TRX tires measuring 190/55 up front and 220/55 out back. A spare tire is located beneath the front clamshell, and the brake fluid was changed by the seller. A dark tint has been applied to the rear windows.

The interior features black Recaro sport seats, and red lap belts are mounted in addition to the factory three-point belts. Manual windows were equipped from the factory, and a SuperSonic CD player has been added.

The red MOMO steering wheel features a smaller diameter than its factory counterpart and fronts the stock Jaeger instrument cluster. The factory Iso Delta steering wheel is included in the sale as pictured in the gallery. The six-digit odometer shows 44k kilometers (~27k miles), 500 of which were added by the seller.

The 1,432cc inline-four is mounted longitudinally behind the front seats and is equipped with a Garrett turbocharger and intercooler. Shifting is through a five-speed manual gearbox. An oil change was performed by the seller.

The factory data plate lists the 8221 chassis designation, serial number 127, and the 1985 build date. The Sun International VIN plate can be viewed in the gallery. The seller states that the car passed a California emissions test in July 2019 and that a BAR sticker is not present.
