This Porsche 924 got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GT is a well-preserved example that shows under 70k kilometers (~43k miles) from new and is one of 406 produced. Based on the 924 Turbo, the Carrera GT was developed by Porsche to comply with Group 4 racing regulations following the company’s entry in the 1980 24 Hours of LeMans. This car was acquired by the seller after it was featured on BaT in 2013, and it remains fully sorted. Included documentation consists of importation paperwork, service records, a clean Carfax, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The car is located in Monterey, California and is sold on a bill of sale along with a signed-off Florida title.

Containing styling elements that influenced the later 944, the Carrera GT shared much of its bodywork with the 924 Turbo, though with with wider polyurethane quarter panels at the front and rear as well as a polyurethane hood scoop. This example is said to wear much of its original Silver Metallic (Z4) finish, with the seller noting some evidence of a repainted front bumper fascia, likely repaired from rock chips and other road debris. The finish is described as remaining in very good condition, showing consistent and uniform gloss over the entire the body.

Exterior trim and rubber componentry present well and appear free of any splitting or excessive fading. The original staggered Fuchs alloys are still in place and are fitted with Goodyear Eagle tires that retain plenty of treadlife, but that are noted as older by the seller.

Detailed photographs of the exterior highlight the proper panel fit with uniform gaps and shutlines.

The interior shares many of the same components as its regular 924 sibling and remains unmodified apart from a period Blaupunkt stereo and aftermarket speakers fitted to the door panels. The black carpeting retains good pile and the cloth sport seats are in good condition aside from a small rip in the passenger seat fabric and some wear along the driver’s-side bolster piping.

All instruments, switches, and electric powered accessories remain fully operational..

The rear cargo area retains its original retractable cover and carpets, which remain in good condition and free of any noticeable marks or stains.

The M31.50 engine employed the standard 1984cc cast-iron block from the 924 with the aluminum head, camshaft, and cooling system from the turbo. It generated 210 horsepower at 6k rpm with lighter forged pistons produced by Kolbenschmidt, a larger version of the 924 Turbo’s KKK turbocharger, and a Langerer & Reich intercooler. Total engine weight was listed at 175 kilograms without fluids.

Shifts are performed by a Getrag dogleg 5-speed gearbox similar to the 924 Turbo unit but fitted with strengthened gear sets to accommodate the extra horsepower. The seller tuned the fuel injection system shortly after his purchase and has driven the car approximately 500 miles during his ownership. It is said to run and drive very well and is frequently started and driven around the seller’s storage facility.

Lift shots display a tidy and complete underside that remains well-preserved with no signs of serious corrosion or accident damage.

The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is shown above, confirming the original color and specified equipment.

Import documentation, service records, and a clear Carfax are also included in the sale.

The car retains its original set of keys along with the original owner’s manuals and brochures. The seller cannot confirm whether or not the car is eligible for California registration, so recommends that it be sold to someone who does not plan to register it in the Golden State. The car is available for inspection and a paddock test drive weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm.
