This 1974 Saab Sonett III is a non-running project that was acquired by the current owner in 1994, reportedly from its original owner. The car retains its 1.7-liter V4, four-speed manual transaxle, and 15″ “soccer ball” wheels, and it has been repainted orange. It is also equipped with a Saab-branded push-button stereo, tan upholstery, a roll hoop, and dual exhaust tips. The seller states that the car has not been started or driven since it was placed in storage in 2007, and it will require a mechanical inspection and work before it can be driven. This Sonett III is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with magazine articles and Alabama registration in the owner’s name.
The car was refinished in orange under previous ownership with black accents on the hood, rear panel, and rocker panels. Additional exterior details include pop-up headlamps, body-color mirror housings, and a dual exhaust tips.
Factory 15″ “soccer ball” wheels with blue Saab-logo center caps are mounted with 165-series Stratton Sport Radial tires, and a spare wheel with a Pirelli tire is located in the trunk. The car is equipped with front disc brakes, though the hydraulic system requires service.
The fixed-back bucket seats are upholstered in tan vinyl with cloth inserts, and portions of the color-coordinated carpets have been removed. The car is equipped with a cabin heater, a roll hoop, a Saab-branded AM/FM radio, and a Quartz clock.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and a combination gauge. Aftermarket gauges for voltage and oil pressure are mounted below the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.
The Ford-sourced 1.7-liter V4 features dual air cleaner elements and is linked to a four-speed manual transaxle. The seller reports that the engine turns over but does not run, and it will require further mechanical work before it can be driven. No battery is included.
