All the rainforests in the world are being cut down at an amazing rate! We need to stop this from happening. Have you heard of the H.I.P.P.O. issue? When you think hippo you think this:
H.I.P.P.O. stands for habitat loss, introduced species, pollution, population growth, and overconsumption. Three of these things threaten the Brazilian rainforest:
- Habitat loss, - humans chopping down the rainforest.
- Population growth - the more people on earth, the more rainforests will be cut down.
- Overconsumption of resources - Rainforests are so important because in them are rubber trees, plants that help make medicine, and foods such as bananas. Also if the animals in the rainforest are killed, their predators and prey will also die. This would affect other ecosystems and the food that we eat. We need to stop this from happening because the whole world would be affected. We would also lose a wonderful forest that one third of all the species on earth call their home!
