SPARCstation 20 Series

Sparc20
Designed with your success in mind.
The SPARCstation(tm) 20 Series was engineered to live up to your company's potential. With performance that begins where other systems peak, these networked desktops can keep pace with even the fastest-growing enterprise. In fact, they can help you set the pace. Because every SPARCstation 20 can easily expand to faster processors and up to four-way multiprocessing, you are getting better performance than any other desktop system. Better compute performance. Better graphics performance. Better networking performance.

Whether you're in engineering or education, manufacturing or finance, science or business, the SPARCstation 20 system will run your applications better. That's because the innovative SPARCstation 20 features an exceptionally well-balanced design. Building on the strengths of the SPARCstation 10, the world's most successful networked desktop, our engineers added faster system bus technologies to the SPARCstation 20 Series. The result: These systems not only deliver higher single-processor performance (at very attractive prices) but also provide the ideal platform for desktop multiprocessing.

And that's just the beginning. Cutting-edge 24-bit graphics, imaging, and multimedia technologies are fully integrated into the system. As are fast disks, high system memory capacity, and a full complement of expansion slots so you can easily add even more graphics, video, multimedia, and advanced networking capabilities.

Multiprocessing means unparalleled performance
When you're ready for an entirely new level of performance, so is the SPARCstation 20. The modular design makes it simple and economical to add disk, memory, even processors. By adding CPUs, you can dramatically increase performance--at half the cost of competitive systems.

Of course, simply adding another CPU is not enough to deliver a truly efficient multiprocessing system. For peak *system* performance, all components--cache, memory, disk, networking--must keep pace. And that's where the SPARCstation 20 system outshines every other desktop.

In addition to providing the ideal hardware platform for multiprocessing, the SPARCstation 20 comes bundled with Solaris(R), the leading 32-bit UNIX(R) solution. Specially designed for multiprocessing, Solaris enhances the UNIX operating system's inherent multitasking capability. What's more, it delivers the highest networking performance in the industry.

Better graphics, imaging, and video
The first line of desktops to include accelerated 24-bit true-color image processing, 3-D graphics, and video decompression as standard features, the SPARCstation 20 Series delivers real-time video playback and enables you to pan, zoom, rotate, convolve, and do color conversion at high speeds. Thanks to our revolutionary SX technology, you get up to 100 times the imaging performance of other high-end desktops, making the SPARCstation 20 unbeatable for GIS, medical imaging, and color prepress applications. These desktops are perfect for designing in interactive 3-D with Gouraud shading and Z buffering. And they excel as an 8-bit 1280 by 1024 windowing platform.

The SPARCstation 20TurboGX(tm) is ideal for 2-D and 3-D wireframe drafting, electronic design automation, or financial applications. If you want even faster graphics, plus higher resolution and hardware double buffering, choose the SPARCstation 20TurboGXplus(tm).

For extremely demanding applications such as high-end mechanical design, contour mapping, or animation, the SPARCstation 20ZX system includes 3-D solids functionality and gives you the fastest, most interactive and realistic graphics available.

The advanced multimedia technologies you'll find integrated into the SPARCstation 20 enable people to work together as never before, using applications such as electronic mail that combines text, audio, and video. And the SPARCstation 20M system brings real-time video conferencing to the desktop. Because sometimes success depends not only on what you bring to the table, but also who.
