Characters: Colonies are phaceloid. Corallites are usually closely compacted and less than 10 millimetres diameter. Septa are exsert and irregular, but approximately uniform in width, if not height. Polyps are fleshy, concealing septal characters.

Colour: Tan to dark brown usually with pale green oral discs.

Similar Species: Caulastrea furcata, which usually has less compact corallites with some thickened primary septa..

Habitat: Horizontal substrates protected from wave action and with turbid water.

Abundance: Uncommon.
