Launched just recently, the Honda Z is a small "people's mover" vehicle especially suitable for quick, short city sprint-abouts. The Honda Z is designed as a 2-door, 4 or 5 seater K-car.

Honda produces two types of the Z; a naturally aspirated Honda Z while the other is known as the Honda Z Turbo ...

The Honda Z Turbo represents the only turbo-charged model that Honda is currently producing, and only for consumption in Japan's Domestic Market. It is powered by a small capacity 656cc water-cooled 3-cylinder engine with 4 valves per cyliner, making it an SOHC 'Hyper-16V' design. In the Z-Turbo, this E07Z engine comes in the full turbo-charged intercooler trim. The cylinders in the E07Z are in a slanted, almost horizontal layout, with the camshaft and valve train placed on the left (passenger) side. It revs to a 7000rpm red-line and produces 64ps at 6000rpm with a max torque of 9.5kgm at 3,700rpm. And it is even LEV...

The 'underfloor midship' configuration means that the E07Z is mounted just ahead of the rear wheels and under the rear seats. The wheels are placed right at the four corners of the car.

Driving the car in a 'real-time' 4WD system similar to the CR-V, the Z uses 15 inch rims and 175/80R15 Q-rated tyres ! The Z is also designed for a 50-50 weight balance.

Eventhough designed for relatively mundane city style sprint-abouts, Honda has made the Z Turbo into a very fascinating car indeed and I hope readers will find so too. The images in this article are scanned from the Honda Z catalog given to me by a friend.
