rlhis invention relates to improvements in store furniture, and iS more particularly adapted to a case Afor displaying merchandise in a neat and sanitary manner @ne of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a display oase of the above mentioned cludes a box an character which ind a lid therefor, tlie box be ing normally disposed at'an angle for `displaying the merchandise contained'V therein, means being provided for facilitating the actuation ofthe lid to cover orunco'ver the box simultaneous with the tilting. thereof.
i A further object ofthe invention is to provide a display Vcase off the above Vmentioned character wherein suoli construction as to the customer obtaining access to bility of the same is of prevent any possithe merchandise contained within thel box from the front of the case. l f
l A still further object is to provide av display case of the above mentioned vcharacter which is of such the same to be senibled, the same tion, inexpensive,
further well adapted which it isy designed.
Other objects and construction as to enable readily assembled or disasbeing simple in construcstrong and durable and to `the' purpose Y for advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification,
numerals desig the same Figure 1 is and in which like nate like parts throughout a front elevation of the 'display Case embodying our invention.
Figure 2 is proximately on Figure 3 is 3-3 ofFigure,
ln the drawing7 of illustration is shown sectional view taken j vap- 2-42 of Figurel, and.
a line wherein for the purpose the preferred embodiment of our invention,` the numeralrl designates generally our improved display case, the same The frame is open at its front Vcomprising and rear, and
the sides of the 'frame gradually taper toward the top a in Figure 2. longitudinally shaped shelf A and the purpose be more fully described.
hereinafter Arranged in :traine between The top 3 is sy is more clearly illustrated provided with a extending substantially thereof will the lower portion of the the sides thereof is thebag front of the frame.

holder designated by the numeral 5, the same being inclined downwardly toward the The forward end of the bag holder is closed as illustrated at 6 and the top and bottom of the bag holder gradually diverge As is illustrated more clearly in Figure 2 of the drawing7 the top 7 of the bag holder has toward the rear ofthe frame.
its rear edge terminating at a point intermediate the front and rear faces of the frame. V f
A rod 8 extends transversely between the sides ofthe frame 2 and' ispreferablyfloof the bag holder 5. An open top box or receptacle designated generally by the numeral 9 is provided with a depending flange 10 around the edges of thebottom thereof. The side-flanges are provided with a pair lof aligned notches 11, the saine being arranged YVat a'point intermediate they'ends vof the box or receptacle and preferablyslightly ofi' the center. The aligning notchescooperate with the transversely extending rod 8 to pivotally support the box between the sides frame and the location of the pivot box to be inclined downwardly vin the position as shown in Figure 2. A handle 12 is providedon the rear end of the box. The lower rear endv of the box is cut away as is illustrated in Fig- `ure 2. A rod 13 extends transversely across the top of the forwardend of the box and the ends of this rod protrude beyond the respective sides of' the box. rThe purpose of this rod will also hereinafter be more fully described. 'f
A lid 1A is provided for the box or recep- Y tacle 9, the same being provided with the glass top 15 `which is supported in the lid contents of the box to be at all times readily visible. The lid is'pivotallysupported-at itsrear endon the transversely Vextending rod 16, the latter being arranged in the Vup-v per vrear portion rear portionof the lidvis provided witha sleeve like member to accommodate the pivot rod 16 as is clearly illustrated in the draw. ing. The sides of the lid are provided with the inturned flanges 18 at their bottom edges and these flanges extend for substantially the full length of he sides of the lid, the same terminating at a point adjacent the rear end ofthe lid asl clearly illustrated in manner, and enables the of the' frame'. vThe upper l kof the box will cause flanges 18 provide a tra ck or of the rod 13 which extend transversely` across thetop'of the`forward end of theV box.
The box being filled with the merchandise y to be displayed, is normally in the position as shown infFigure 2 of the drawing, and the lid 14: extends over the open top ofthe box, thus keeping the contents of the box free from .any foreign substance,`thus keeping the merchandise in a sanitary condition.
VAs is obvious from the construction illus trated in Figure 1, the merchandise in thev box is at all times visible to the customers.
`However, the lid is arranged on the box in such a manner as to render it impossible for acustomer to gain access to the contents of the box from the front of the case. The contents may be obtained from the box by the clerk behind .the case.
' grasping the handle 12 and tilting Y the box so that the rear end thereof movesdownwardly while the forward end is raised, the upward movement of the forward end the free endsy ofthe rods 13 to cooperate with the lid causing the latter to be raised or swung on its pivot so that the box and lid will be disposed in the position as shown in the dotted lines in Figure 2. The lidv will then in no way in- Vterfere with the clerk removing the merchandise from thebox, andit is understood of course that when the box is tilted rearwardly, theweight `of the merchandise in the boxk will cause the same to move rearwardly by gravity whereby the rear end of the box will rest on the bottom of the bag holder so that the box will not accidentally return to its normal position during the removal of the merchandise therefrom.
The parts will be returned to their normal positions` by pulling upwardly on the handle 12.A The downward movement of the for-` ward end ofthe box will cause the free ends of the rod 13 to move forwardly on the track formed by the inturnedflanges 18 whereby the lid will also be simultaneously actuated.
Vpackages so that the VThe top 3 provides a means for supporting a scale or the like, and the 'V-shaped various articles of merchandise which are putup vin same will be distinctively displayed. l.
The display case embodying our invention may be constructed ofany suitable metallic tures.
material, such as sheet iron, aluminum or the like, arranged as to enable the box and lid to be readily removed from the frame whenever it becomes necessary. The lid 14 may be disengaged from cooperative relation with respectvto the box by moving the free ends p the rods to the extreme rear end` of the While weA have shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit ofthe invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim as new is :-'-4
1. A display case comprising a frame open at its front and rear, a box tiltably supported intermediate its and normally disposed in a downwardly inclined display position,ja transparent lid for the box supported atits rear end in the frame, and means carried by the forward end `of the box and cooperating with the lid forfacilitating the raising of the forward portion of the lid so as to uncover the rear end of the box when the latter is disposed in brass, copper, and the parts are sora rearwardly inclined discharge position,
projections extendforward end of the with the projections. n
2. A display case comprising a frame open at its front and rear, a box tiltably supported intermediate its ends in said frame and normally disposed in ka forwardly inclined display position, a transparent lid for said box pivotally supported .at its rear end in the rear portion of the frame, and means for effecting the upward swinging movement of the forward portion of the lid for'uncovering the rear portion of the box when the latter is disposed in a rearwardly inclined discharge position, said means comprising projections Yextending laterally'from the sides of the forward end of the box adjacent the upper edge thereof, and depending rtracks the lid and on which Y formed on the sides of tracksaid projections vare adapted to slide.
In testimony whereof we affix our signa- LEE RIEMAN.
